Warnings

There are plenty of people sounding the warnings to our society of the danger into which we are plunging headlong. Doug Phillips at Vision Forum, and Voddie Baucham, just off the top of my head. Rather than just re-state what others have said, I just want to give a couple of examples from my own life.

As Christian homeschoolers, we struggle to protect our kids from a lot of bad influences, while balancing that with preparing them to live in this world. My children are 11 and 13. We have already had to take a stand against dating for our son. One thing that is so sad is how aggressive girls are. I first encountered this issue when Dalton was 9 or so and a little girl developed a crush on him. She kept wanting to hug him and certainly acted very silly around him along with her girlfriends. It shook me then, but things died down again until this summer.

At rodeo Bible camp, another young lady developed a crush on my son. I had to confront her and tell her she could hang out with him, but there would be no touching. She obeyed and her parents thought it was funny. They agreed with us when we said 13 is too young to date, but, being new Christians, don't seem to really understand. My children don't have their own cell phones, which blew her mind, but this young lady tried to get around it by calling my husband daily for weeks until school started. She just chatted about things going on!

I always thought we'd have to prepare for boys coming around when my daughter got old enough, but never realized we'd have to fight the girls off our son!
